US transgender official wins legal battle
Georgia Supreme Court rules unanimously in politician's favor

The state of Georgia's top court ruled in favor of a transgender politician who was slapped with a lawsuit by two political opponents who claimed she misled voters by running as a woman.

The Georgia Supreme Court's unanimous ruling on Monday found that the two political opponents who filed the lawsuit failed to produce evidence of fraud, misconduct or illegal action after claiming that Michelle Bruce bamboozled voters by identifying herself as female.

"This is a great victory for me and anyone who believes in equality," Bruce said in a statement. "It gives me hope that the Georgia Supreme Court did what was right and did not buy into hate-bas ...

It's June in Central Park for Atlanta Pride
Gay festival decides against move to fall

Atlanta Pride announced today it would return the festival to its traditional dates on the last weekend in June to coincide with the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, which are viewed as the start of the modern gay rights movement.

The Atlanta Pride Committee will host the festival at the Atlanta Civic Center andneighboring Central Park June 26-28. Although Pride Board Chair Deirdre Heffernan said organizers would consider shrinking the festival to one or two days, this announcement confirms the 2009 event will be a full weekend affair.

"We may do something different, but Pride will still be celebrating on that Friday," Heffernan told Southern Voice ...
