Beware. The MSM is not in the business of reporting; it is in the business of promoting the MSM - and to do that, the MSM needs drama. And Obama bring 10+ points up now and increasing between now and election day doesn't cut it (of course, the MSM could build the drama by focusing on the possibility of a 538-0 Electoral College victory or veto-proof majorities in both houses - but I suspect Joe Scarborough would have an aneurysm trying to play by that script.)
Soon to be playing on the MSM (which includes those parts of MSNBC not hosted by Keith Olberman or Rachel Maddow): The Picture of McCain's Comeback
From Crooks & Liars:
Look at these two screen shots from David Gregory's show "Race to the White House" today (Tuesday 10/15). Notice something strange? The Virgina poll is over two weeks old, and the North Carolina poll is nine days old. And what do you know, both show McCain with a small lead! Why rely on old data? Maybe because the newer ones conflict with the McCain "Comeback" storyline?
C&L shows what the actual current polling data says - and, shockingly, its a weeeeeeeeeeeeeee bit different than the story that Gregory is selling.
The Republican National Committee hasn't booked ads for the next week in Wisconsin TV markets after running a series of spots attacking Barack Obama and congressional Dems, according to TV sources. On the other hand, other activity by the state party is questionable - does anybody else find this bit of business disturbing? GOP seeks police, veterans to work Milwaukee polls. The decision comes amid speculation on whether Republicans may pull back in Wisconsin after several polls in the past week showed Obama up over John McCain by double digits. An RNC spokesman referred calls to the party's independent expenditure operation, which is in charge of the TV ad buys.
Democrats are criticizing the Wisconsin Republican Party for seeking people with military and law enforcement experience to watch Milwaukee polling places. Now I doubt the purpose is to scare voters away from the polls, but if they can "challenge" people they believe are ineligible during the process, certainly that can hold up voting, and make it difficult to get people through if the turnout is massive. Thoughts? After 2000 and 2004, there's justification for the unease....In the e-mail dated Sept. 8, the state party's director of election day operations Jon Waclawski said he was looking specifically for names of "Milwaukee area veterans, policemen, security personnel, firefighters etc." A supporter forwarded the e-mail to the Obama campaign, which gave it to reporters late Tuesday.
...Obama's campaign director, David Plouffe, singled out the e-mail during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday in which he was asked to name specific intimidating behavior by the GOP. He accused Republicans of trying to get "large individuals with law enforcement backgrounds" to work the polls in Milwaukee to scare away voters.
Poll watchers may keep track of voter turnout at a location, gauge whether the process is running smoothly and challenge voters who they believe are ineligible. Observers can be removed if they disrupt the election, actively campaign for a candidate or distribute election-related material.
